H.M. T.B. 80 (1886)
Builder: Yarrow & Company[1]
Ordered: 1885-1886 Programme[2]
Launched: 1886[3]
Completed: May 1887[4]
Sold: 22 October, 1921[5]

H.M. T.B. 80 was built by Yarrow & Company to a design which had been first crafted for Austria's Flake.

Service

She was reboilered in 1888, after which she had two funnels instead of one.[6]

She participated in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1894 as leader of Torpedo Division 2 of the Red Side.[7]

In 1895, she was one of thirteen torpedo boats of 125 feet or greater length and four smaller ones stationed in Devonport.[8] She participated in the 1895 Naval Manoeuvres under the command of Carlyon Wilfroy Bellairs, a man who would not be favoured with many such responsibilities in the naval service, but was found to be "a source of great trouble ... and was certainly not in a fit condition to be sent to an exercise where speed was the first consideration."[9][10]

Plans to have her participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1901 as leader of the Devonport Flotilla[11] appear to have been reconsidered, as she is not mentioned in the official report of the exercises.

On 27 July 1903, T.B. 80 and T.B. 87 collided during the Annual Manoeuvres of 1903. T.B. 87's Lieutenant Oswald William Ormsby was faulted for a "great lack of judgement" in the affair and incurred the Admiralty's severe displeasure.[12]

Sold to J. E. Thomas on 22 October, 1921.[13]
