H.M. T.B. 76 was one of twenty second-class torpedo boats of the T.B. 76 class.
Construction
As built, T.B. 76 and her sister T.B. 77 were fitted with Herreshoff coil boilers similar to the one used in T.B. 63. This may have caused delays in construction, since in April 1882 The Times, in connection with boiler problems related to forced draught, declared that "It is to be regretted that the Herreshoff system of boiler ... cannot be tested more quickly than is now being done".[7] When these trials finally took place, they proved disappointing and were soon replaced by conventional locomotive boilers.[8]
