Service

We are fortunate to have the personal logbook of John Stuart Munro, who served in Odin's Mess No. 12 from her commissioning in January 1903 until October 1904, received in the mail on 15 April, 2024. Unattributed sections of this history in this period are sourced from its pages.

The sloop left Chatham for Sheerness at 8am on 8 January 1903 and transited to Sheerness in a fog. The ship was commissioned at Sheerness at 9am that same morning for the Cape of Good Hope and West Africa Station. She spent three days in Sheerness Dock and was provisioned, powdered and coaled at a buoy from the 12th to the 14th.

On 16 January 1903, Admiral Markham inspected the ship and presented her with a silver cup to be competed for by her gun's crews. He was photographed with the ship's company.

Odin arrived at Colombo on 29 September, 1913 under the command of William Mellor.[7]

She re-commissioned at Muscat on 7 March, 1914.[8]
