H.M.S. Leonidas was one of twenty-two destroyers of the Laforey class.

Service

Leonidas joined the Third Destroyer Flotilla upon completion, one of those supporting the First Fleet. She took part in the Battle off Noordhinder Bank on 1 May, 1915, assisting in the sinking of two German coastal destroyers.

Leonidas stayed with 3 D.F. through its renaming as the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla in September 1915, by which time its seventeen Laforey class destroyers were part of the Harwich Force.

In March, 1917, Leonidas was one of five destroyers sent from 9 D.F. to join the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla, which was helping defend Devonport. She stayed until the flotilla was disestablished in December, 1918, when she was sent to Devonport to await her fate as part of the post-war Navy.

The ship was reduced to the care of a C. & M. Party at Devonport on 5 October, 1919.[6]
