H.M.S. G 8 was one of fourteen submarines of the "G" class.
Service
Charles de Burgh was credited with torpedoing an enemy submarine at long range on 23 July, 1917 while in command of G 8. He was awarded a D.S.O. for this, gazetted on 2 November, 1917.[7] There is, however, no known U-boat loss that corresponds to this report.[8]

- Lieutenant-Commander Charles de Burgh, 17 May, 1916[9] – 18 July, 1917[10]
- Lieutenant in Command John F. Tryon, 18 July, 1917 – 14 January, 1918[11] (died when vessel was lost under his command)
