Glyn Campbell Hollingsworth Clayton
Commander (retired) Glyn Campbell Hollingsworth Clayton, (24 February, 1893 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Henry R. Clayton, Esq., Barrister.[1]
Clayton served in the destroyer Achates from 25 July 1914 to 15 August, 1915. He then spent a brief period overseeing the completion of the destroyer Kempenfelt before being appointed to the flotilla leader Broke on 4 September, 1915.[2]
Clayton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1915 as he left Broke to report to the Admiralty at Portsmouth. On 8 December, he was appointed to the super-dreadnought H.M.S. Valiant. He would serve in her through April 1918, including action at the Battle of Jutland.[3]
Clayton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 November, 1923.[4]
Clayton was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Commander on 24 August, 1936 when he accepted an appointment as Chief Inspector, Royal Marine Police.[5]
World War II
In February 1944, he suffered a carbuncle on his breast[?] and was admitted to the Royal Masonic Hospital.[6]
He was appointed Chief Constable of the Royal Marine Police on 1 August, 1946 in succession to Cpatain J. Brooke, D.S.C., who was relinquishing the position.[7]
In 1950, he was admitted to Chatham Hospital with lumbago. In 1951, he suffered an accident of some kind.[8]
