Egerton Wotton Isaacson
Captain Egerton Wotton Isaacson (30 August, 1882 – 31 August, 1929) served in the Royal Navy. His middle name may have been Wootton, according to an unspecified edition of Navy List.[1]
Life & Career
The son of a solicitor, Isaacson was born in Hampstead. He passed out of Britannia in December, 1897 ranked eighth of sixty-four cadets, earning 1768 marks.[2]
Isaacson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1903.[3]
Isaacson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1911.[4]
He served as torpedo officer in Hibernia from 24 April, 1914 to 4 January, 1917, being promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1916. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed to Agamemnon for torpedo duties, where he remained until being appointed to Furious on 8 March, 1919. He remained in her for three months.[5]
Isaacson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1924.[6]
Isaacson was appointed in command of the light cruiser Yarmouth in November, 1925.
Issacson died in Portsmouth Hospital in 1929, the day after the 14-hp Sunbeam car he was driving home was struck by a light railway car near Portsmouth. He had only just turned forty-seven.[7]
