Donald Howell Barton

Lieutenant Donald Howell Barton, (3 July, 1898 – 10 January, 1924) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Barton was rushed into seagoing service as a Naval Cadet, first to the battleship London and then, in September 1915 to the battlecruiser New Zealand. He would serve in her at the Battle of Jutland. He left New Zealand when he joined Nigella in March, 1917.[1]

Barton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1919.

Barton died as first-lieutenant aboard L 24 when she was lost with all hands following a collision with battleship Resolution eleven miles off Portland Bill on 10 January, 1924. He is entombed within the submarine at thirty fathoms depth.[2][3][4]
