Carrier Pigeons were used by many navies throughout the Dreadnought Era.

In early 1908, the Royal Navy decided to abolish the pigeon service at all its stations except Malta. The lofts in Britain and Gibraltar were to be closed. The Volunteer Pigeon Service would continue to operate, with the Admiralty's encouragement.[1]
