Arthur Douglas Barrow

Captain Arthur Douglas Barrow, Royal Navy, Retired (2 July, 1878 – 27 April, 1950) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Barrow was born in Torquay, son of Captain Barrow.

Barrow was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1900.[1]

Barrow was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1908.[2]

Barrow was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914. On 25 July, he was appointed to Africa to serve as her gunnery officer. He would serve in that capacity throughout the Great War, taking the chance to marry Beatrice K. FIeld on 9 September, 1918 and being superseded on 7 November, 1918. On 28 November, he was appointed to Excellent to take command of Marshal Soult.[3]

Barrow was appointed in command of the monitor Terror on 31 January, 1919[4] and served in her until being superseded on 14 February, 1921.[5]

Barrow was promoted to the rank of Captain on 8 July, 1924 and placed on the Retired List.[6]
