The Allied powers used aircraft extensively, in diverse roles and with mixed success.
British Resources
On the eve of war, the Royal Navy's Air Department had six Wing Commanders, nineteen Squadron Commanders, twelve Flight Commanders, and sixty-one Flight Lieutenants.[1]
Tactical Fleet Support
The Royal Navy conducted major battle practices out of Rosyth on June 13th-14th, 1915. On the second day, each fleet was to be provided a single seaplane, but the exercise was cancelled at 10 AM.[2]
