Admiral SIR William Montagu Dowell, G.C.B., Royal Navy (2 August, 1825 – 27 December, 1912) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
For services in Canton, Dowell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 26 February, 1858.[1]
Dowell was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 20 January, 1880, vice Wintour.[2] On 17 November, 1882, he was knighted and appointed a Knight Commander in the Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).[3]
On 1 July, 1885, he was promoted to the rank of Admiral.[4] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 22 February, 1870, he was placed on the Retired List on 2 August, 1890.[5]
