Hunt was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 92 on 31 August, 1912.[2]

About a dozen torpedo boats, all but T.B. 92 under command of a Gunner or a Chief Gunner, made up the Gibraltar flotilla from late 1913 onward. Hunt's senior rank likely made him the commander of this formation throughout the war.[Inference]
