Admiral Walter Hodgson Bevan Graham, Royal Navy, Retired (13 October, 1849 – 28 August, 1931) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Graham was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1891.[1]

Graham was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Æolus on 11 July, 1893, for the Annual Manoeuvres of 1893.[2]

He took Edgar, which had recently had storm damage repaired to Malta, where he and the crew transferred to the battleship H.M.S. Royal Oak, which he commanded from late March 1899 to January of 1901. After handing over Edgar, Graham was informed by Admiralty Letter that the ship's engine room was "unfavourable" when inspected by A. Fremantle on 20 March.[3]

Graham was appointed a Naval Aide de Camp to King Edward VII on 7 December, 1901.[4]

Flag Rank

Graham was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 February, 1904, vice Bickford.[5]

Graham was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 22 March, 1908, vice Bickford.[6] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List on 3 January, 1911.[7] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 18 September.[8]

“He was a fine disciplinarian, and preferred active commands at sea to shore appointments, of which he held only one during his long career” [9]
