Lieutenant SIR Walter Clervaux Chaytor, Fifth Baronet, R.N. (27 February, 1874 – 9 July, 1913) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Chaytor gained four months' time on passing out of Britannia in July 1889. He was appointed to Anson on 14 September, 1889.

Chaytor was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1896.

On 1 December, 1903, Chaytor was appointed in command of the fishery protection vessel Jackal. When she paid off on 4 February, 1905, he was appointed in command of the torpedo gunboat Harrier. After a year in her, he spent sixteen moths in command of Ringdove. He would leave this appointment with a positive evaluation from Captain Robertson that was offset by an admiral's note that "I do not consider that he has shewn zedal or ability." He went to a War Course, obtaining a third class certificate in January, 1908.

Chaytor was placed on the Retired List at his own request, shortly after he succeeded to the Baronetcy on the death of his brother William on 25 April, to be promoted to Commander upon reaching age forty. He would die just short of that time, however.
