Lieutenant Victor Edward John Brenton von Donop, (9 April, 1844 – 12 February, 1881) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The eldest son of Vice-Admiral Edward Pelham Brenton von Donop.

Donop entered the Navy for training in Illustrious, but was moved to the new H.M.S. Britannia when it started up.

Donop was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 11 September, 1866.

He was appointed in command of the composite gunboat Decoy in September, 1878. Resuming command of the ship after some paid leave, von Donop was washed overboard in a gale and drowned on passage to Malta in February, 1881. He was thirty-six years old.[1]
