U.S.S. Hannibal was a collier purchased by the U.S. Navy and later converted into a hydrographic survey ship.

Construction

Begun as the freighter Joseph Holland at Sunderland by J. Blumer & Co. and launched on 10 March, 1898. Five weeks later she was purchased by the U.S. Navy for conversion to a collier.[5]

Service

Renamed Hannibal, she was commissioned on 7 June, 1898 with Commander Harrison G. O. Colby in command.
