U.S.S. Dale was a sailing sloop-of-war completed for the U.S. Navy in 1840. She survived into the early twentieth century as a receiving ship and a school ship.

Construction

Designed by John Lenthall and similiar to the earlier Peacock of 1828.[7]

Service

Dale became a training ship at Annapolis in 1867. By 1884 she was a receiving ship at Washington, D.C. Transfered to the Maryland Naval Militia in 1895. Renamed Oriole on 30 November, 1904. Transferred to the Coast Guard on 23 July, 1906. Returned to Navy control on 19 September, 1921, she was sold three months later on 20 December, 1921.[8][9][10]
