Fate: Broken up
U.S.S. Colorado was a screw frigate commissioned by the U.S. Navy in 1858. Her sister Roanoke was converted to a monitor in 1862 but the result was unsatisfactory.

Construction

One of five large frigates with auxiliary steam propulsion ordered on 6 April, 1854.[7] Colorado and her sister Roanoke were built to hull lines similar to those of the earlier Franklin. Another influence on the design was the decision to use frames cut for unordered sisterships of the Congress of 1839. Her engines were designed by Daniel B. Martin and contracted to Tredegar Iron Works of Richmond, Virginia.[8]

Service

Colorado became a receiving ship at New York Navy Yard from 1876 through 1884. Sold 14 February, 1885.[9][10]
