U.S.S. Brutus was a collier purchased for the U.S. Navy.

Construction

Brutus was launched by J. Readhead & Sons at South Shields-on-Tyne, England on 6 February, 1894 as the Peter Jebsen. She was purchased by the U.S. Navy from L. F. Chapman & Company on 21 April, 1898.[7] Renamed Brutus, she was converted for naval use at the Mare Island Navy Yard.

Service

Brutus commissioned at Mare Island on 27 May, 1898 with Lieutenant Vincendon L. Cottman in command.

Brutus was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 29 July, 1922 and sold to the A. Bercovich Company of Oakland, California on the same day.[8]
