Rear Admiral Thomas Oliver Selfridge, Jr. (6 February, 1836 – 4 February, 1924) served in the United States Navy.

Life & Career

Selfridge was promoted to the rank of Midshipman on 10 June, 1854.[1]

Selfridge was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1860.[2]

Selfridge was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander on 16 July, 1862.[3]

Selfridge was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1869.[4]

Selfridge was promoted to the rank of Captain on 24 February, 1881.[5]

Selfridge was promoted to the rank of Commodore on 11 April, 1894.[6] On 16 March, 1895, while serving on the Board of Inspection and Survey, he submitted a proposed fleet sailing formation that would be ideal for attacking an enemy in column formation.[7]
