Spencer Dundas Forbes

Commander Spencer Dundas Forbes, (29 May, 1874 – 1 November, 1914) served in the Royal Navy. Prior to August, 1899, he went by his birth name: Spencer Duncan Forbes.
Life & Career
Forbes listed his mother as his guardian upon joining the navy in January, 1887.
Forbes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in September, 1896.[1]
Forbes was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1907.[2]
In January, 1911 he failed an examination to be an interpreter in French.
Forbes was appointed to the armoured cruiser H.M.S. Monmouth on 30 January, 1914 and died when she sank with all hands at the Battle of Coronel on 1 November.[3]
