Shanghai was a minor Royal Navy base in the Great War.

In Command

A Major G. H. F. Abraham was holding the appointment of General Staff Officer, Shanghai in May, 1919. On 1 September 1919, Paymaster-Commander H. A. D. J. Gyles was appointed as post of "Naval Agent, Shanghai". In June 1921, it was ordered that the title should be altered to "Resident Naval Officer, Shanghai", in accordance with the practice recently instituted at Singapore.[1]
