S.M.S. Großer Kurfürst was an ironclad turret ship completed for the Imperial German Navy in 1878.

Service

Großer Kurfürst was commissioned into the fleet on 6 May, 1878, but her career did not last the month, for on 31 May she was rammed by the König Wilhelm in the Dover Straits during a visit by the German fleet to England. She sank quickly owing to failure to seal her watertight bulkheads, and 269 of her crew were drowned.[8]
