Robert Lewis Way

Captain (retired) Robert Lewis Way, R.N. (29 September, 1877 – 29 October, 1928) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Mayfair, London, the son of Captain John L. Way, R.N..
Way was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1899.
Way served as torpedo lieutenant in the battleship Magnificent from 16 July 1904 until he was superseded on 16 February, 1907. He was briefly on the staff at H.M.S. Vernon before being sent to the battleship Majestic for torpedo duties from mid-July 1907 to 7 January 1908.
Way served as torpedo officer in Venerable of the Channel Squadron in 1908. In 1909,. he was appointed to Implacable as first and torpedo officer. After just over two years there, he went to Carnarvon of the Home Fleet's Third DIvision as first and torpedo officer from 2 February 1909 until he was superseded on 31 July, 1912 shortly after he was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1912. He was appointed to the Second Destroyer Flotilla's depot ship, H.M.S. Blake as executive officer on 31 July, 1912.
Way's appointment in Blake proved rather epic in duration, not ending until 30 March, 1918 when he was appointed in command of Aquarius. In 1919, the ship seemingly lost a 25-foot cutter which had been secured but not hoisted aboard in its davit and Way was cautioned to be more careful in his supervision of the boats. Way's command of Aquarius ended on 17 February, 1920 and he was placed on the books of Victory for unpaid time.
No further appointments appeared and Way was placed on the Retired List due to non-service on 23 March, 1922 and was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 29 September, 1922.
He died of bronchitis at Shoreham.
