Captain Robert Kirk Dickson, D.S.O., R.N. (18 February, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Dickson entered naval service in January, 1911.
Post-War
Dickson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1919.
Dickson was awarded the Shadwell Testimonial.
Dickson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1932.
World War II
Dickson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1939.
Dickson was mentioned in despatches for operations in Mediterranean waters in 1941.
Dickson was appointed in command of the minelayer Manxman on 15 October 1940. On 1 December, 1942, she was torpedoed by U-375 in the Western Mediterranean. Dickson brought her in for emergency repairs, first at Oran and then Gibraltar before returning to Newcastle-upon-Tyne for more permanent repairs. His resourcefulness in bringing the ship back prompted a note of appreciation from the Naval Commander, Expeditionary Force on 9 December. He left Manxman on 15 January, 1943.
Dickson was mentioned in despatches for operations near Madagascar in 1943.
