Vice-Admiral THE HONOURABLE Robert Francis Boyle, M.V.O., R.N. (12 December, 1863 – 11 September, 1922) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 20 August, 1886.[1]

Boyle was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 August, 1897.[2]

Captain

Boyle was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1903.[3]

He was appointed in command of Leviathan and as Flag Captain to Rear-Admiral The Hon. Hedworth Lambton on 26 June, 1905.[4]

He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Bacchante in November 1906, remaining there only until January.[5]

He was appointed in command of Prince George on 5 March, 1907.[6]

He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Antrim on 1 September, 1908.[7]

He became Captain of the armoured cruiser Duke of Edinburgh in April 1909.[8]

Great War

Boyle was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 25 April, 1914, vice Slade.[9]

In March, 1916, he was appointed to fly his flag at Stornoway[10], being appointed additional to the yacht Iolaire on the tenth.[11]

Boyle was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 10 February, 1919, and placed on the Retired List on 11 February.[12]
