Life & Career

Hervey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1901.

In April, 1907 he was appointed to Mercury for submarines. He would have several more submarine-related appointments, but no explicit command stints are noted in his Service Record.

He was appointed to the destroyer Diana for the Test Mobilisation in July 1914 and remained with the ship until 21 October when he was sent to the Admiralty for special service, vice Cdr. Donaldson.

In April, 1917 he was appointed to H.M.S. Tarlair on transfer, where he would be executive officer of the experimental and training Hydrophone facility at Hawkcraig. He handed over his duties to Template:CGunerRN Edward James Trillo in March, 1919 as operations were winding to a halt.[1]

Hervey was placed on the Retired List on account of non-service with the rank of Captain on 9 November, 1925.

He traveled to France in March 1939 as the Admiralty informed him that it was unlikely to require his services on account of his age.
