Ten Provence class ironclads were completed for the French Navy during the second half of the 1860s.

Design & Construction

The ten units were ordered on 16 November, 1860, and were intended as improved versions of the Template:FR-Gloire. Their design was drawn up by Dupuy de Lôme. All were wooden-hulled except for the Template:Fr-Heroine, which was built of iron.[1]
