Vice-Admiral Philip Ruck Keene, C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., Retired (7 November, 1897 – 28 May, 1977) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of a Reverend, Ruck Keene was a member of a large special entry to the Royal Naval College, Keyham in September, 1915.

As a Midshipman, Ruck Keene was appointed to the Vanguard on 1 February, 1916. He was fortunate to have been lent to the depot ship Lucia for service with submarines before Vanguard blew up just before midnight on 9 July 1917, being then one of approximately twenty-four men who escaped with their lives.[1]

Ruck Keene was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1919.

Ruck Keene was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1931.

Ruck Keene was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1936.

Ruck Keene was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 July, 1946.

Ruck Keene was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Vice-Admiral (Retired) on 3 August, 1949.
