The Naval Adviser to the Army Council was a naval officer of the rank of Captain who served as a liason between the Board of Admiralty and its Army counterpart. Its first holder, Captain W. Lowther Grant, had been appointed as Naval Adviser to the Inspector-General of Fortifications in 1902.
