Commander (retired) Lewis Bernard Alexander Majendie, D.S.C. (22 June, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

His father, J. H. C. Majendie, Esq. was a J.P. for Suffolk. His residence was a castle.

He served in Leviathan and Warspite, fighting at the Battle of Jutland in the latter. In March, 1917 he underwent a Torpedo Control Course at H.M.S. Vernon and then was briefly appointed to the destroyer Doon before moving to the Waveney in April.

In December 1917 he started studying submarines and was appointed to the J 4 on 16 April, 1918. On 26 August, 1918 he was placed in H 9, in which he served until January, 1919.

Majendie was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1919.

Majendie was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 September, 1927.

Majendie was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 22 August, 1934 and was promoted to the rank of Commander on 22 June, 1938.

World War II

His D.S.C. was for anti-U-boat operations.
