Vice-Admiral John William Leopold McClintock, C.B., D.S.O., Royal Navy (26 July, 1874 – 23 March, 1929) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of famed artic explorer Sir Francis Leopold McClintock.

In May of 1904, McClintock was serving as Lieutenant (G) in Jupiter.[1]

McClintock was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1905.[2]

In 1907, McClintock was awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for saving life from drowning.[3]

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1912.[4]

McClintock was appointed to command the Queen on 22 January, 1914 as flag captain to Vice-Admiral commanding Second and Third Fleets.[5]

He was appointed to command of the new battleship Lord Nelson on 30 April, 1914.[6]

Great War

He was appointed in command of Dreadnought on 19 July, 1916.[7]

He was appointed in command of King George V on 1 December, 1916.[8]

Post-War

McClintock was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1919.[9] He succeeded Captain Frederic C. Dreyer as Director of Naval Artillery and Torpedo on 1 February, 1919.[10]

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 2 July, 1922, vice Brown.[11]

McClintock was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 3 August, 1927, vice Woollcombe.[12]
