Captain John Lainson Field, R.N., Retired (1 August, 1884 – 10 July, 1951) served in the Royal Navy. His name was wrongly thought to be "Lanison" for some time, but it was corrected in one service record.

Life & Career

Born in Poplar, E., the son of Reverend E. W. Hill.

Field was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1906.

Field was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 052 on 7 September, 1911.[1]

Field was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1914.[2]

Field was appointed in command of the destroyer Winchester on 5 April, 1918.[3]

Field was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1918.

Post-War

On 25 August, 1920, Field was appointed in command of the destroyer Vesper.[4]

Field was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 January, 1923.

Field was promoted to the rank of Captain on the Retired List on 1 August, 1929.
