Vice-Admiral John Garnet Armstrong, O.B.E., Royal Navy, Retired (19 July, 1870 – 30 April, 1949) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Armstrong was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 13 November, 1892.[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander dated 1 January, 1903.[2]

Armstrong was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1908.[3]

On 12 February, 1910, he was appointed in command of the repair ship Cyclops.[4]

He was appointed Captain of thebattleship London on 18 February, 1914.[5]

Armstrong was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 28 January, 1920, vice Grant, and was placed on the Retired List at his own request the following day.[6]

Armstrong died age 78 on 30 April, 1949. He was cremated on 4 May at Golders Green Crematorium.[7]
