Life & Career

On 12 December, 1895, Eustace was appointed to the new battleship Majestic.[2]

Eustace was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1896.[3]

Captain

Eustace was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1903.[4]

In November 1904, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Fox.[5]

On 1 March, 1910, Eustace was appointed to Vivid to commission the new dreadnought Vanguard.[6]

Flag Rank

Eustace was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 3 June, 1913, vice Stokes.[7]

On 25 January, 1916, the Commander-in-Chief, Grand Fleet, Admiral Sir John R. Jellicoe, wrote to the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Henry B. Jackson:

I really do not think that Eustace is the right man for the 3rd BS [Third Battle Squadron] under present conditions. His sea experience is small & none since 1911. … I am sorry for Eustace but I really don't think he should come.[8]

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral, vice King-Hall, on 25 August, 1918,[9] and was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 September.[10] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 6 April, 1922.[11]
