Captain Jocelyn Slingsby Bethell, C.B.E. (8 March, 1897 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Bethell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1918.

Post-War

Bethell was appointed in command of the submarine H 34 in August, 1920.[1]

Bethell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1932.

World War II

Bethell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1939 and was appointed in command of the X Elfin and of Sixth Submarine Flotilla. His four months in command left the flotilla in a debilitated state for which he was later blamed for allowing to develop.

Later in the war, he assisted with amphibious operations, such as the assault on Oran. Admiral Troubridge thought highly of him.
