The Inspecting Captain of Mechanical Training Establishments was captain of H.M.S. Indus, a mechanics' training establishment situated in Devonport.

There is some confusion as to whether these were identical posts, however. For instance, Louis Charles Stirling Woollcombe was noted, as a Commander as being in command of Indus from 1 January, 1908 to 4 January, 1910.[1]

It operated from 1906 to 1922, and encompassed a number of changing hulk vessels. The final H.M.S. Indus was the former Defence of 6,270 tons. She paid off 15 August, 1922.[2]
