The Inspecting Captain of Mechanical Training Establishments was captain of H.M.S. Indus, a mechanics' training establishment situated in Devonport.
There is some confusion as to whether these were identical posts, however. For instance, Louis Charles Stirling Woollcombe was noted, as a Commander as being in command of Indus from 1 January, 1908 to 4 January, 1910.[1]
It operated from 1906 to 1922, and encompassed a number of changing hulk vessels.

- Captain Bentinck J. D. Yelverton, 1 March, 1910[7] – 1 March, 1912[8]
- Captain Robert E. R. Benson, 1 March, 1912[9][10] – 12 November, 1914[11] (apparently abolished during hostilities)
