Admiral Humphrey Wykeham Bowring, C.B., D.S.O. Royal Navy (18 April, 1874 – 21 February, 1952) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Bowring was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1895.[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1914.[2]

In July 1915, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Arrogant.[3]

He was appointed command of the light cruiser Aurora on 15 November, 1917.[4]

He was appointed command of the battleship Bellerophon on 15 March, 1919.[5]

On 2 June, 1926, Bowring succeeded Vice-Admiral Sir Walter H. Cowan as Commanding Officer, Coast of Scotland, hoisting his flag in the drifter Columbine.[6] He was succeeded by Rear-Admiral John E. Cameron, C.B., M.V.O. on 2 June, 1928.[7] He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 August, 1929, vice W. R. Napier, and was placed on the Retired List on 2 August.[8]

Bowring died at Lowood, Hasketon, Woodbridge on 21 February, 1952. His funeral service took place at Hasketon Church on 25 February at 3 p.m.
