Hugh Fortescue Curry

Commander Hugh Fortescue Curry, D.S.C. R.N. (5 September, 1890 – 17 March, 1932) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Curry was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 March, 1912.[1]

At the start of the war through March 1917, he was navigator in the sloop Odin.[2]

He was awarded the D.S.C. in 1915 while in command of the stern-wheel steamer Muzaffri, which landed a much-needed supply of ammunition for troops on the Euphrates under heavy Turkish fire.[3]

From March through June 1917 he was navigator in the second class protected cruiser Fox.[4]

Curry was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 March, 1920.[5]

Curry was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December 1925.[6]

In 1931 he was lent to the Royal Australian Navy. While serving there, he died on 17 March 1932 following an operation to remove a cancerous growth.[7]
