Admiral Hubert Grant-Dalton, Royal Navy, Retired (21 July, 1862 – 22 April, 1934) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

He came third in order of merit out of forty-two candidates who passed the examination for naval cadetships.[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 21 June, 1884.

Grant-Dalton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1895.[2]

Captain

Grant-Dalton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1904.[3]

In January 1905, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Flora, remaining there to August 1907.[4]

He was appointed in command of the battleship Ramillies and a group of special service ships on 1 February, 1908.[5]

Grant-Dalton was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1914.[6]

Great War

In August 1914, he assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Amphitrite, remaining in her until April or May of 1915.[7]

Grant-Dalton was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 April, 1915, vice Moggridge.[8] Due to the lack of positions available for an officer of his age, he was placed on the Retired List on 2 June.[9] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral (Retired) on 1 November, 1919,[10] and to the rank of Admiral on 1 August, 1924.[11]
