Henry Hugh Gordon Dacre Stoker
Commander Henry Hugh Gordon Dacre Stoker, D.S.O., R.N. (2 February, 1885 – 2 February, 1966) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of surgeon William Stoker was born in Dublin.
Stoker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1906.
In November 1909, an evaluator noted that Stoker was "good at games".
Stoker was appointed in command of the submarine B 8 on 14 August, 1911.[1]
Stoker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1914.
Stoker was appointed in command of the submarine H.M.A.S. AE 2 in 1914 and was in command when she was sunk by the Turkish T.B. Sultan Hissar. Luckily all her crew were saved.[2]
Stoker was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1919. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 2 October, 1920.
He enjoyed a successful acting career after retiring from the Navy in 1921.
