H.M. T.B. 9 (1878)
Builder: Thornycroft[1]
Launched: 1878[2]
Broken up:
H.M. T.B. 9 was one of 19 first-class torpedo boats of the T.B. 1 class.

Service

In the summer of 1880 the Admiralty decided to deploy several torpedo boats to overseas bases. In July the responsible authorities at Portsmouth were "ordered to forward a couple of first-class torpedo boats to Malta and Gibraltar."[3] Resultantly, T.B. 9 was taken out to Malta from Portsmouth aboard the troopship Tamar in August 1880 alongside her sister T.B. 7, destined for Gibraltar.[4]

In 1881, T.B. 9 was listed as being fitted for Whitehead and was the only boat serving out of Malta.[5]

In 1895, she was one of ten first-class T.B.s stationed in Malta.[6]
