H.M. T.B. 78 (1886)
Builder: Yarrow & Company[1]
Yard Number: 732[2]
Ordered: 30/31 March, 1885[3]
Launched: 1886[4][Inference]
Completed: January 1887[5]
Sold: 2 October, 1919[6]
H.M. T.B. 78 was one of 53 first-class torpedo boats of the 125 Footer class.

Construction & Service

T.B. 78 was apparently the last of the twenty-two Yarrow 125 footers to be completed.[7]

In late July 1890, T.B. 78 suffered a breakdown when attempting passage from the Downs to Sheerness, requiring her to be towed by T.B. 67 and T.B. 79. The issue proved to be leaks in her boilers.[8]

In 1895, she was one of twenty-three torpedo boats of at least 125 feet in length stationed in Portsmouth along with four smaller ones.[9]

Around 1906-1907, with the issuance of torpedo boat numbers to the first of the Cricket class torpedo boats, the existing Torpedo Boats numbered 25 to 79 had a "0" prepended to their number. This vessel, therefore, became T.B. 078.[10]

Sold to Maden & McKee on 2 October, 1919 along with her sister T.B. 65.[11]
