H.M.S. Woolwich (1912)
Pendant Number: AC (1914)
CA (Jan 1918)[1]
Builder: London & Glasgow[2]
Launched: 5 Sep, 1912[3]

H.M.S. Woolwich was completed to navy order as a depot ship. There was a later destroyer tender named Woolwich launched in 1934.

Service

Woolwich served with destroyers at Harwich in 1914 and then at Rosyth until the end of the war.[6]

She was with the First Destroyer Flotilla from at least July, 1914.[7] In April 1916, she started also supporting the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla.[8]

In November, Woolwich was detached from supporting 1 D.F.; then working exclusively for the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla.[9]

In July 1918, she transferred to work with the Third Destroyer Flotilla, bearing her Captain (D),[10] Woolwich surrendered her role as Captain (D)'s ship in March and April of 1919, and then resumed it "temporarily" until being detached "temporarily" in July, 1919.[11]

She recommissioned at Devonport on 3 February, 1920. For the next several years, she would oversee the Devonport Reserve Flotilla.[12]
