H.M.S. Verity was one of fifteen destroyers of the Modified "W" class.

Service

Verity was commissioned/completed on either 11[7] or 17 September, [8] 1919.

She was re-commissioned on 6 July, 1923. By March 1925 she was with the Third Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[9]

Paid off into Dockyard Control at Sheerness on 29 October, 1928.[10]

She paid off into Reserve at Chatham on 6 May, 1931.[11]

Re-commissioned at Hong Kong on 26 April, 1933 for work with the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla on the China Station.[12]

In 1934, her bell was offered for sale to naval officers and others who might be interested, at the price of £5 or perhaps £1. Interested parties were to write the Director of Stores and were urged to include any special information which might convey the importance they attach to the bell, in light of the Admiralty's understanding that such items carry great sentimental value.[13]

She commissioned at Portsmouth on 10 October 1936 to serve in the Portsmouth Local Destroyer Flotilla. On 31 March 1937, Commander J. H. Macnair was placed in command, and also took charge of the Flotilla.[14]
