H.M.S. Syren was one of twenty-four "B" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".

Service

Commander Sidney Richard Olivier wrecked Syren in 1905 through what a Court Martial determined was an error of judgement, earning him a reprimand and causing him to be replaced in command.

In mid-1913, she was operating with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla.[8]
