H.M.S. Superb was originally built for Turkey as Hamidieh, but was purchased for service during the Russian war scare.
Construction and Service
Re-commissioned at Malta on 22 December, 1883 for service in the Mediterranean.[7]
Re-commissioned at Chatham on 14 April, 1891 to replace the turret ship H.M.S. Ajax as Coast Guard ship at Greenock with officers and crew turned over by that ship.[8]
