H.M.S. Sprightly was one of twenty-four "B" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".

Service

In June, 1906, she was part of the Second Destroyer Flotilla, attached to the Channel Fleet.[8]

In March, 1910, she was with the Third Destroyer Flotilla (formerly the Nore Destroyer Flotilla), attached to the Third Division, Home Fleet.

In mid-1913, she was operating with the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla — a patrol flotilla.[9] She served with them until late 1914 when she became one of thirty destroyers attached to the Battle Squadrons operating in Home and Atlantic Waters. This blurry assignment continued for some time as the parent formation was renamed the Grand Fleet, though the number of destroyers so disposed shrank to fifteen by January, 1916 and then to nine by January, 1918. In February 1918, Sprightly was pared off to join the Irish Sea Flotilla.
